Faf du Plessis and the Saint Lucia Kings made history by securing their first-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title in 2024. The Kings defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors by six wickets in a thrilling final at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on October 6, marking a significant milestone for the franchise.
Leading from the front, du Plessis orchestrated a brilliant campaign for the Kings, capping it off with a memorable final performance. But what made headlines beyond the victory was Faf du Plessis’ unique celebration. Drawing inspiration from Rohit Sharma’s iconic slow-motion walk to the podium after India’s T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year, du Plessis recreated the moment, holding the trophy high and slowly walking towards his jubilant team.
The celebration was a nod to Sharma’s famous move, which itself paid tribute to Lionel Messi’s legendary walk after Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup win. Faf’s recreation brought smiles to the faces of fans and players alike, adding an extra layer of excitement to the historic win.

After leading his team to victory, Faf expressed his joy at winning the CPL trophy, especially for the long-serving members of the team. "Happy for the guys, they have been here (Sammy and Co.) for a long time. Think 10 or 15 years they have been waiting for the trophy to come home," said du Plessis.
Faf praised the efforts of the entire team, especially their bowlers, who restricted Guyana Amazon Warriors to a modest total of 138. "Very happy with the bowling effort. At the toss, I wasn't quite sure what to do and I felt like when they posted 138, when we walked off we were positive. I think in both the innings, last 2-3 overs really made the difference."
Du Plessis highlighted the team’s collective effort throughout the tournament, with various players stepping up at different times. "The group of guys here, no superstars, we had different guys putting their hand up at different stages of the competition, so as a team I am really extremely proud of the guys"
