VVS Laxman will remain the head of India’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) for an additional year, extending his tenure beyond the initial three-year contract set to expire in September. This extension comes as the NCA is set to inaugurate a new state-of-the-art facility in Bengaluru, a project that began with the foundation's laying in January 2022.
Laxman, who took over from Rahul Dravid in 2021, has made significant strides in injury management, player rehabilitation, and the development of coaching programs during his tenure. His continued role will see him supported by Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar, key figures in India’s domestic cricket.
The new NCA campus will feature 100 pitches, 45 indoor practice pitches, three international-standard grounds, a modern rehabilitation center, lodging facilities, and Olympic-sized pools, and is expected to be fully operational by early 2025.
Despite speculation linking Laxman with head coach roles in IPL franchises and potential positions with the Indian national team, his commitment to the NCA has put these opportunities on hold. His extended tenure at the NCA will also involve addressing the revival of the India A tour program, which has seen interruptions in recent years.
Laxman’s ongoing leadership is poised to strengthen the NCA’s role in shaping the future of Indian cricket through enhanced facilities and continued focus on player development and coaching excellence.
