Former Indian Test cricketer Virender Sehwag praised the hospitality of Pakistanis and said he became emotional after receiving the warm welcome from locals on his visit to the country.
Former Indian Test cricketer Virender Sehwag praised the hospitality of Pakistanis and revealed he was deeply touched by the warm welcome he received during his visit to the country in 2003 when India hosted a series of five One Day Internationals in 2003 traveled across the country (ODIs) and three tests.
During an interview on a YouTube channel, Sehwag recalled the tour and said that the Pakistani people welcomed her so warmly.
"When we toured Pakistan in 2003/04, we found so much love from the Pakistani people," he said.
“We went shopping before the second test in Lahore. I bought about 30-35 Pakistani suits for my family at a local market. The shop owner refused to accept money from me and said I was the guest and how to accept money from a guest. We received so much love all over Pakistan," he added.
During the interview, Sehwag also praised former Pakistani cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq. He regarded Inzamam as Asia's greatest mid-tier batsman, even eclipsing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sehwag highlighted Inzamam's ability to stay calm under pressure and hit runs, particularly during the 2003–04 period when the eight runs-per-over average was considered exceptional.
He explained, “Tendulkar was out of the batters league; he was about it. But Inzamam was the best in the middle league. I'm referring to around 2003/04 when a run rate of around eight seemed impossible. The teams panicked.” In such situations, however, Inzamam remained calm and posted a batting average of around eight.”
Inzamam is one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced. From 1991 to 2007 he represented his country in 120 Tests, 378 ODIs and one T20I. He was also part of the 1992 Pakistan World Cup team.
