Australian batter Travis Head has denied any rift in the Australia National Cricket Team after their humbling defeat to India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth. Following speculation of a division in the dressing room, Head clarified that the players are united despite the disappointment from the loss.
Rumours of unrest emerged after premier Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood expressed frustration when asked about the team's performance in the first Test, stating, "You probably have to ask one of the batters that question." Hazlewood’s remark raised eyebrows, with some suggesting a divide between the bowlers and batters in the Australian camp.
Former cricketers Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist discussed Hazlewood's comments, with Gilchrist concluding that there may be issues within the squad. Gilchrist hinted to a divide between the bowlers and the batting team, following the latter's disappointing performance in Perth.
However, Travis Head has brushed off the speculation, asserting that there are "no fractions" within the team. Speaking to 7NEWS, Head emphasized that the players are standing together as they prepare for the second Test in Adelaide.
"I think (people have) picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine. All the boys hung out together last night, nothing changed in the way we were as a group," Head stated. "No doubt there was a lot of disappointment around the room, but definitely no fractions."
Head also noted that the team had constructive conversations after the loss, staying united in their approach regardless of the result.
As Australia prepares for the crucial second Test against India, which will be a day-night encounter in Adelaide, Head acknowledged the team’s strong record with the pink ball.
"We play the pink ball well traditionally there and look we’re going to have to. There’s no hiding behind that, we’ve got to play better. Nothing’s guaranteed in this game, but if we work hard, no reason why we can’t turn it around," he added.
