As Australia prepares for the two-match away Test series against Sri Lanka, rumors have been swirling about the potential opening partnership. Travis Head, often positioned in the middle order, has been rumored to open alongside Usman Khawaja. However, Head recently squashed those reports, confirming that no such discussions have taken place with the team management.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the series opener in Galle, Head said that Australia’s management is considering a flexible batting order. Head, who usually bats at No. 5, will be in competition with rising talent Sam Konstas for the opening slot.

Head, who is fresh off a strong series against India, said, “I don’t know where I’m going to bat at this stage. We’ll see how the wicket plays out over the next couple of days.” He added that the team has been discussing the possibility of making adjustments to the batting order depending on the conditions. “It’s been a topic of conversation for the last little bit in this team,” he revealed.

Australia's willingness to experiment with role flexibility in the subcontinent could be key to their success, and Head noted that the team is open to making bold decisions. He further explained, “The game’s evolving, and so must we. I feel like this group has experienced players who can adapt to different roles in different situations of the game.”

Reflecting on his last tour of Sri Lanka, Head expressed his determination to improve his performance. “Three years ago, it was completely different. I wasn’t pleased with the way that tour went, and I didn’t play well at all,” Head said.

Now, with more experience, Head is more adaptable and confident. He emphasized that he is comfortable batting in any position if it helps the team, saying, “I feel comfortable wherever I need to be to win the Test. I ain’t bothered where I bat anymore.”
