England all-rounder Tom Curran was found guilty of intimidating an umpire during a pre-match confrontation, and as a result, he was suspended for four matches in the Big Bash League. However, Sydney Sixers will continue to fight the sanction.
In accordance with Cricket Australia's Code of Conduct, Curran was charged with a Level 3 offense for an incident that occurred prior to the Sixers' match against the Hobart Hurricanes on December 11 in Launceston.
According to CA, Curran finished a practice run-up and ran on a portion of the pitch during the warm-up before the umpire gave him a verbal instruction to refrain from doing so in the future.
It was reported by CA that Curran walked to the opposite end of the pitch in order to finish another practice run-up, which prompted the umpire to assume a position near to the stumps in an effort to counteract his movement.
"The umpire gestured to Curran to move away from the pitch. Curran was seen in the footage gesturing to the umpire to move away from the pitch,” CA's statement said.
"Curran then attempted to perform a practice run-up and run at pace straight towards the umpire who stood in the bowling crease facing Curran. The umpire stepped to his right to avoid the risk of collision."
Despite Curran's efforts to refute the accusation, he was ultimately punished with four suspension points, which is equivalent to a four-game suspension. The upcoming matchups that the Sixers have scheduled against the Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder, and Brisbane Heat are all going to be missed by him.
