Sri Lanka have solidified their chances after day two of the second Test. Kamindu Mendis' unbeaten 182*, along with Dinesh Chandimal's incredible 116 and Wicket-keeper batter Kusal Mendis' 106* helped Sri Lanka post 602-5, declared on the board. In reply, New Zealand scored 22 runs and lost two wickets.
New Zealand are in deep trouble in the second Test.
It was another poor outing for New Zealand. Both with the ball and bat. The two Mendises punished them badly and both got hundreds. Kamindu would have had double hundred if not for the declaration. Tim Southee tried everything but nothing effected the Sri Lankans as they were ridiculously good with the bat. Glenn Phillips was the pick of the bowlers as he had 3-fer.
In reply, New Zealand lost Wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham and then they lost Devon Conway soon after. Prabath Jayasuriya and Asitha Fernando had one wicket each. However, after the departure of the openers, Kane Williamson held things together as Kane consumed 42 balls to score only 6* runs.
New Zealand are currently 22-2 and are 580 runs behind of Sri Lanka. The visitors have Kane, Daryl Mitchell on their hands and their experienced campaigners need to step up to give this Test match a fight.
