Bangladesh won the match by 2 wickets in a thriller. That means they also started the tournament with a win. Though Sri Lanka started well in the match in the first 6 overs, Bangladesh bowlers turned around the match, and restricted Sri Lanka to just 124 runs in 20 overs and won the match with 2 wickets in hand.

Bangladesh had to overcome many difficulties before this victory. A loss in the last match of the series against Zimbabwe at home, a series loss against the USA on USA soil, crushed by India in the warm-up match – all together Bangladesh looked like a shattered team. There is now an air of relief in the Tiger camp after a great win against the Lankans.

The pressure was always building up on the Sri Lankan batters. I think the Bangladesh bowlers did a very very decent job.”
