South Africa displayed strong form on the first day of the Chattogram Test against Bangladesh, ending at 307/2, thanks to stellar centuries from Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs. Stubbs played a remarkable 198-ball innings, scoring 106 runs to achieve his first Test century, a milestone he was thrilled to reach under challenging subcontinental conditions.
“To get all the three figures, it was a big relief more than anything; this definitely ranks as my best or favorite 100,” Stubbs expressed in the post-day press conference.
Stubbs shared insights into his game plan: “Until lunch, I felt like I was scoring quite freely. Then coming in after lunch, I really felt it hard to get off strike. The ball was doing a bit, and it was a good period for them. Then just grafted it out, and then once got the rhythm back again, I felt quite comfortable."
Stubbs also spoke on the challenge of adjusting to different formats and conditions, saying, “Initially, before I played or came out as a T20 player, I was actually always a red ball player. But it's more just the mindset. T20 20. My favorite format is actually 50 of the group. Because you can still play a bit and score hundreds, where you're going to be really... It's more mental game, the Test group, which is also I love.”
