Josh Hazlewood has become a devastating star fast bowler with the combination of line-length consistency, swing and seam movement. Injuries have plagued him in recent times. However, on the eve of the start of the fourth Test of the Ashes in Manchester, Hazlewood said that he is ready with new enthusiasm after recovering from injury.
As ‘Bazball’ cricket of England is admired by many, it is also criticized by many. However, the spectators are undoubtedly happy to see Tests played in this way in the T20 era. Australia pacer Hazlewood sheds light on an important issue. In his view, England's new style of game 'Bazball' is much more aggressive. So in this case the fast bowlers seem to be over bowling less than before.
Hazlewood said, "I felt pretty good to be honest. We haven't bowled a lot of overs in terms of what Test matches usually look like for us. The way England play, it gets us in the field for a little less in terms of workload. I felt pretty good going into the game. It was probably the right call now I can sit back and look at the big picture. I was desperate to play, which is obvious, but now it makes sense."
Hazlewood has recently missed a major part of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the final of the ICC Test Championship, the Headingley Test of the Ashes due to injury. He added, "I obviously sat the last game out and I feel better for it. Having a rest and getting a bit of strength back has helped me in getting ready for this game.”
Hazlewood was reminiscing about Australia's last Ashes match (2019) in Manchester. In that match he made a big contribution with 6 wickets. "I have memories of the last time here in 2019. Good to be back here and hopefully get a game,” said Hazelwood.
Hazlewood was fully fit before the Ashes but suffered from fatigue, exhaustion and lack of fitness before the final of the Test Championship. After missing the third Test, Hazlewood is now looking ahead to the next two Tests. He wants this tour to be one to remember for Australia.
Hazlewood further said, "I was probably a little bit underdone for that World Test Championship (Final) and then got ready for the first game. I didn't seem too rusty when I was out there in the middle. Once you get that big day of workload underneath you, you feel a lot better. Hopefully after that little break, I'll come out firing again.
"Missing Headingley is probably the reason to set me up for the last two games. I know they're back-to-back, but we haven't bowled a lot of overs. Hopefully with that work behind me now, I'm in a better position than I was a month ago. That sort of puts me in a good place to hopefully get through those last two games and play my role and do what I usually do."
It should be noted that the fourth Test of the Ashes between Australia and England will begin on July 19 at Old Trafford in Manchester. Australia are leading 2-1 so far. Australia need to draw one of the remaining two matches to regain the Ashes.
