Shakil was caught out by wicketkeeper Ollie Pope off Mark Wood’s delivery. There was considerable doubt as to whether Pope's catch was properly taken or whether the ball touched the ground. But the batter did not get any benefit of the doubt and the umpire stayed with his decision.
After the match, Babar said about the wicket, “The Shakeel dismissal cost us. It looked to us as if the ball had touched the ground. As a professional, you have to respect the umpire’s decision, but we felt the ball had been grounded.”
However, Pope said that he had no doubt about the catch. “I didn’t think it had bounced before. As a keeper, when you’ve got the gloves on, you honestly can’t tell. I didn’t think it had touched the ground after. When you have gloves on you feel it go in but that’s it.”
