Mujeeb Ur Rahman Zadran (born 28 March 2001) is an Afghan cricketer who plays for the Afghanistan national cricket team. He was the first man to play international cricket to be born in the 21st century.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a cricketer who plays for the Afghanistan national cricket team. He has been part of the team since 2017 and has had a successful time with the team. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was born on March 28, 2001 in Khost. Mujeeb Ur Rahman made his debut for Afghanistan national cricket team in ODI format in 2017.
Playing primarily as a team bowler, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is a prolific right-arm bowler who has won many wickets for the teams in both domestic and international cricket. He can also bat in the lower order and has scored some important runs for the team. Mujeeb Ur Rahman beats right-handers. He is a brilliant outfield player and can set up anywhere on the ground. He is good with both his ground field and his catching.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman plays for the Afghan National Cricket Team ODI/T20/Test format. He represents Afghanistan U19, Bengal Tigers, Brisbane Heat, Comilla Victorians, Hampshire, Kabul Zalmi, Khost Province, Khost Province U17, Kings XI Punjab, Mis Ainak Knights, Speen Ghar Region team in domestic cricket.
Domestic and T20 Franchise Career
On 10 August 2017 he made his List A debut for the Speen Ghar region at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament 2017. On 11 September 2017 he made his Twenty20 debut for Boost Defenders in the 2017 Shpageeza Cricket League. In the In November 2017 he was signed by Comilla Victorians for the 2017–18 Bangladesh Premier League season.
In January 2018 he was bought by Kings XI Punjab at the 2018 IPL auction. On April 8, 2018, at the age of 17 years and 11 days, he became the youngest cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League.
In May 2018 he was signed by Hampshire County Cricket Club to compete in the 2018 t20 Blast tournament in England. In September 2018, he was called up to Nangarhar's squad for the first edition of the Afghan Premier League tournament. He was the joint leading wicket-taker for the Nangarhar Leopards in the tournament, with 12 dismissals in nine matches.
In February 2019 he was signed by Middlesex County Cricket Club to compete in the 2019 t20 Blast tournament in England. In November 2019, he was selected to play for the Cumilla Warriors in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League.
On 30 December 2020, in the 2020–21 Big Bash League season, he took his first five-wicket draw in T20 cricket, scoring 5 for 15 for the Brisbane Heat against the Hobart Hurricanes. In February 2021, Mujeeb was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the pre-Indian Premier League 2021 IPL auction.
International Career
He was the leading wicket-taker at the 2017 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup with twenty wickets in five matches which helped Afghanistan win its first ACC Under-19 Cup title. As a result of this performance, he was called up to Afghanistan's One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against Ireland in December 2017. He made his ODI debut for Afghanistan against Ireland on 5 December 2017.
On the debut, he took 4 wickets for 24 runs from his 10-over quota and helped his team win by 138 runs. He was named man of the match for his performance.
In December 2017 he was called up to Afghanistan's squad for the 2018 U19 Cricket World Cup. He made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe on February 5, 2018.
On February 16, 2018 against Zimbabwe in Sharjah, Mujeeb took his first ODI five-wicket move. He became the youngest player ever to hit an ODI five-wicket haul and was named man of the match.
In February 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Mujeeb as one of the ten players to be watched ahead of the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament. On 15 March 2018, he picked up 3 wickets for 33 runs against the West Indies in the first game of the Super Sixes in World Cup qualifiers. He also made a catch from Rashid Khan's bowling as Afghanistan beat them by 3 wickets, with Mujeeb earning his third ODI award for Man of the Match.
During the 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier final between the West Indies and Afghanistan, Mujeeb returned with match totals of 4/43 in 9.5 overs and helped Afghanistan limit the West Indies to a 204 point total. Afghanistan chased the target of 205, dropping just 3 wickets with ten overs to save and clinching their first ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier title. He was also the joint leading wicket-taker in the tournament, along with fellow wrist spinners, Rashid Khan and Safyaan Sharif of Scotland, with 17 wickets each.
After the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup qualifying tournament, the ICC named Mujeeb the rising star of the Afghan team.
In May 2018, he was called up to the Afghanistan squad for their first friendly against India. On June 14, 2018, he made his Test debut for Afghanistan against India. Mujeeb became the sixth player and first for Afghanistan to make his first-class debut in a friendly. He became the first player born in the 21st century to play Test cricket, and also became the youngest player to appear in his country's first Test match (17 years and 78 days).
In April 2019, he was called up to Afghanistan's squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. After the World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) named Mujeeb as a rising star of the squad.
In September 2021, he was named to Afghanistan's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Championship. In Afghanistan's first match of the tournament, against Scotland, Mujeeb took his first five-wicket haul in T20I cricket, with five wickets for twenty runs.
