An18-year-old John Campbell played for West Indies at the 2012 U19 World Cup. He made his mark in the fifth place match against England as he celebrated his first century in the tournament. He impressed the domestic selectors and earned a place in the domestic T20 tournament organized by the West Indies Cricket Board. He made his debut for Jamaica in the 2012/13 Caribbean Twenty20.

The following year he received his call-up to the First Class and List A sides for Jamaica. Since then, Campbell has become a mainstay at the side.
