There have been many interesting games and famous foreign stars in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). But now there's a controversy: Shahid Afridi, the former captain of Pakistan, says that Chittagong Kings didn't pay him what they agreed to after he was their brand spokesman during the last BPL season.
Afridi was seen talking to the team's management during the event. He now says that the Chittagong Kings' owners are not answering his calls.
Since Afridi couldn't get in touch with the franchise owners, he is said to have written Faruque Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), to let him know about the problem. Faruque Ahmed said that he had received Afridi's protest, but he also made it clear that the BCB has no formal role in contracts between franchises and their brand ambassadors.
Speaking to journalists in Lahore during the Champions Trophy semifinal, Faruque Ahmed stated, "The BCB has no official role in these agreements. We only regulate the contracts between franchises and players in the draft. The selection of brand ambassadors is entirely up to the franchises."
However, Faruque admitted that a financial dispute involving a legendary cricketer like Afridi could harm the reputation of both the BPL and Bangladesh cricket. "Even though we have no legal authority, we will request Chittagong Kings to settle Afridi’s dues. Additionally, we will be more cautious in selecting franchises in the future. Expect some changes in franchise selection for the next BPL season."
