Background

Rehman made it to the Pakistan U19 team and made two top-flight appearances for Gujranwala in his debut season in 1997. The left spinner stole the show with five and six wickets in back-to-back games against South Africa.

Domestic Career

Rehman conceded five and six goals in consecutive games in 1999 while representing Pakistan U19s against South Africa. He was selected for the side despite only having two top-flight appearances. His performances in domestic competitions have been notable, particularly in the 2006/07 season where he was the highest wicket-taker in the Pentangular Cup in the penultimate game of the season, including 11 wickets for champions Habib Bank Limited. He is the signed professional for 2017, playing for Newcastle City in the Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League.

He was the leading wicket-taker for Habib Bank Limited at the 2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with 46 layoffs in nine games.

English County Cricket

Rehman signed as one of the two foreign players with Somerset County Cricket Club in July 2012 after the county suffered a series of setbacks in securing a second overseas signing. After delays due to his work permit visa, he played his first game against Nottinghamshire on 7 August. In the final four-day league game of the 2012 season at the County Ground in Taunton in September, Rehman recorded a career-best 9-95 against Worcestershire.

On 7 November 2014, Rehman signed a deal to return to Somerset as a foreign player for the full 2015 season.

International Career

In January 2012, Rehman took his first five-wicket pull in a Test, taking 6/25 when Pakistan bowled England for 72 in the second innings of the second Test of their series in the United Arab Emirates. He took another five-wicket haul (5/40) in England's first innings of the Third Test in Dubai as Pakistan won the series 3-0.

In 2012, he was banned by the ECB for 12 weeks after testing positive for the drug cannabis.

He bowled three consecutive beamers in an ODI match against Bangladesh on March 4, 2014 and had to be stripped for the match;  he was the first bowler to concede 8 runs in an over without bowling a ball. Following that performance in that series, he has not been selected in all three categories since. He was draft selected by Peshawar Zalmi (team at PSL) on December 22, 2015.

Rise to Glory
Rehman tore England apart in the 2012 series in the United Arab Emirates, taking 19 wickets in three games with a phenomenal 16.74. He tormented the English batsmen in the second innings of the second Test with six for 25, followed by a five-wicket draw in the third Test to give the then number one in the Test series a clean win.

On select T20I opportunities, he won 11 wickets in eight games, including a brilliant 2 for 7 against Kenya in September 2007.

Low Points

Rehman took 9 wickets at a dear 68.25 in two Test series against Sri Lanka in 2014 and was dropped from the team by just under 100 Test wickets.

The leg spinner was hardly effective in the shorter formats, winning just 30 wickets in 31 ODIs. He played his last ODI in March 2014 in Dhaka against Bangladesh. His last T20I was a long time ago in November 2013 against the Proteas in Dubai.

In 2012, Rehman was banned for 12 weeks by the English and Wales Cricket Board for testing positive for marijuana during his time at Somerset in 2012.
