Gulshan Cricket Club pulled off an impressive 5-wicket victory over the seasoned Prime Bank Cricket Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) 2023-25, thanks to a match-winning century from opener Azizul Hakim Tamim.
Chasing a modest total of 204, Gulshan reached the target with ease, finishing the game with 77 balls to spare at BKSP Ground No. 4.
After winning the toss, Prime Bank opted to bat first but couldn’t convert starts into a big total. Opener Naim Sheikh gave them a quick boost with a 26-ball 36, while his partner Sabbir Hossan added 22 off 18.
The real resistance came from middle-order batter Sajjadul Haque Ripon, who anchored the innings with a composed, unbeaten 51 off 73 balls. Irfan Sukkur also chipped in with 43 off 74, but the lack of momentum in the middle overs saw Prime Bank bowled out for 203 runs.
Mehedi Hasan starred with the ball for Gulshan, bagging 3 key wickets and applying consistent pressure throughout the innings.
In reply, Gulshan Cricket Club got off to a solid start as openers Zawad Abrar and Azizul Hakim Tamim stitched together a 71-run stand. Zawad played a steady innings, scoring 33 off 48, while Tamim took the lead with a fluent display of stroke play.
Despite quick wickets in the middle — including Alif Hasan Emon and Naeem Islam — Tamim remained unfazed. He brought up his century off 106 balls, eventually falling for a superb 105 that laid the perfect foundation for Gulshan’s chase.
Lower-order batter Khalid Hasan played a crucial late cameo, hitting 38 off 34 balls, ensuring there were no late hiccups. Shakib Shahriyer and Farhad Reza finished the job comfortably as Gulshan sealed a five-wicket win with over 12 overs to spare.
Nayeem Ahmed picked up 2 wickets for Prime Bank, but the bowlers lacked penetration on a batting-friendly surface.
