Bangladeshi cricket legend Tamim Iqbal has announced that he wants to return to cricket just three months after having a major heart attack. This is what can only be called an amazing comeback story. The former captain of the national team almost died when his heart stopped during a domestic league game last month. Now, against all odds, he is already planning his return to the pitch.
Tamim told reporters, “By the grace of Allah, I’m doing well. Insha’Allah, I’ll be back to regular life in three months. I’m healthy now.”
Many of Tamim's friends and people in the cricket community were afraid the worst after the shocking events of March 24, when he passed out during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at BKSP. His news is a huge relief to them all.
During the game, Tamim felt sick out of the blue, and his symptoms quickly got worse until he was having a life-threatening heart attack. Sources say that his heart stopped beating. He needed 22 minutes of CPR and three defibrillator shocks before he could be put on life support. He was taken to KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar right away, where doctors found a serious blockage and put in a stent. Several doctors said that the fact that he lived was "nothing less than a miracle."
Tamim was in great shape in domestic games like the DPL and BPL, even though he was no longer playing cricket for the national team. He had made two hundreds for the Mohammedan Sporting Club right before his health scare and had talked about playing in more domestic and franchise events.
Tamim has lost a lot of weight and looks much better since the heart attack, which is good news for his return to the game. Fans thought they had seen the last of him on the pitch, but now they're happy that he seems to have a second chance in both life and cricket.
