Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has emphasised the strength of Bangladesh's bowling attack, urging India not to underestimate their opponents as they prepare for a crucial Test series. Speaking at the Legends League Cricket (LLC) event in Delhi, Raina shared his insights on the upcoming challenges for the Indian cricket team, especially with the spotlight on the formidable spin attack of Bangladesh.
India is set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home, with the first Test scheduled to begin at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19. The second Test will take place at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, starting September 27. This series will be followed by a three-match Test series against New Zealand from October 16 to November 5, laying the groundwork for India's preparations for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia later this year.
Raina stressed the importance of these home series as a build-up to the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy. "Now, a team for Tests will be formed. Top players playing Duleep Trophy is a nice initiative by the BCCI. You get to know a lot of things when you play red-ball cricket," Raina stated, highlighting the significance of red-ball cricket in forming a competitive Test side.
The former left-handed batsman further cautioned against taking Bangladesh lightly, acknowledging their impressive spin attack and seasoned players. “You cannot take Bangladesh lightly as they have a fine spin bowling attack and some good players who have done well for a long time. This series will be a fine match practice for the tour to Australia,” Raina commented.
Turning his attention to the shorter format of the game, Raina also lauded India's recent T20 World Cup success, with a special mention for wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. “The way he practises, he is doing very good wicket-keeping, he has batted very well and when you win the World Cup you know how much fun it is,” Raina noted.
