England star all-rounder Ben Stokes posted an emotional tribute to his late father Ged in his official social media accounts.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes' father Ged passed away yesterday at the age of 65. Ged was battling with brain cancer for some period of time, in his native Christchurch, New Zealand. Ged was a former rugby player and a coach who represented New Zealand.
Ged got initial problems when he was in South Africa for cheering up his son. The former rugby player was hospitalised just prior to the start of the Boxing Day Test between England and South Africa. Since then, Ged was identified with brain cancer and took medications.
In this year too, the England all-rounder left in the middle of the series against Pakistan, to be with his father in Christchurch. Ben Stokes spent few months with his father there, before his arrival to the UAE for IPL 2020. At the moment the cricketer is in South African tour and unfortunately the tour is also cancelled in the mid way, due to the COVID-19 cases around both teams.
While Stokes is in South Africa, Ged had his last breath in New Zealand and passed away at the age of 65. A few hours after the demise of his father, Stokes posted an emotional tribute to his father on his official Social media accounts.
“In different places now me and you Ged but knowing you’ll always have this smile on your face make’s me smile every time I think of you. love you forever and always,” the England all-rounder posted.
