Sri Lanka have bounced back in the Gqeberha Test. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne's sensational hundred helped the Proteas get to 358 on the board. In reply, Pathum Nissanka stood tall for Sri Lanka to help the visitors get close to the home side.
In the morning session, South Africa's tail wagged and they had wicketkeeper batter Kyle Verreynne. The talented wicketkeeper batter smashed a sensational hundred and remained unbeaten till the end with 105* and helped his side get to 358 on the board.
In reply, Sri Lanka started brilliantly, stitching a fluent 41-run opening stand before Kagiso Rabada removed Dimuth Karunaratne. And then experienced batter Dinesh Chandimal and young opener Pathum Nissanka forged 109 runs stand, with both them hitting crispy shots unsettling the protea pacers.
Chandimal fell short of 6 from his half-century as Dane Paterson got him out on 44. Angelo Mathews then joined with Nissanka as the duo had 49-run stand before Nissanka's rush of blood cost him his wicket on 89.
And then Mathews and Kamindu Mendis steered Sri Lanka in the last hour to go through the stumps being unscathed.
Sri Lanka are now on 242-3 and they're trailing South Africa by 116 runs but Lankans have 7 more wickets in their hands.
