England made a comeback after rattling down Pakistan's top order. England's innings was no-like their tradition as their top order was blown away but late order's Jamie Smith stood tall to help the visitors post a competitive 267 on the board. In reply, their bowlers kept Pakistan in check, as they removed the top three inside 73 runs.
Opting to bat first, England had a wonderful start with their openers stitched up for a fine 56-run stand before Noman Ali removed Zak Crawley. The other opener Ben Duckett, however, brought up a nice fifty and scored 52 off 84 deliveries before being trapped LBW to Sajid Khan.
Sajid Khan then ran riot and had Ollie Pope, Joe Root and Harry Brook in style and left England stutter for 98-5. English skipper Ben Stokes too was got out cheaply and hence the visitors were in all sorts of trouble.
Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith and Gus Atkinson then took the onus on their shoulder. The duo added 107-run stand together, with the former one notched up a vital 89 to help England post a competitive total of 267 on the board.
Sajid Khan returned with the figures of 128-6, while Noman Ali had three wickets to his name.
In reply, Pakistan too had shaky start as opener Abdullah Shafique was trapped LBW to Shoaib Bashir. Jack Leach then removed Saim Ayub, with Gus Atkinson knocked over previous match centurion Kamran Ghulam, as Pakistan were crumbling on 46-3.
However, captain Shan Masood and vice-captain Saud Shakeel saw off the remaining period of the day one in the Pindi Test.
Pakistan are on 73-3 and are trailing England by 194 runs.
