Australia beat Pakistan by 13 runs to clinch the T20I series with one game to go on Saturday (November 16) at Sydney Cricket Ground. Jake Fraser-McGurk's 20, Matthew Short's quick-fire cameo of 32 and a gutsy 28 from Aaron Hardie helped the Aussies get to 147. In reply, Spencer Johnson bowled a terrific spell, picking up a fifer to defend the low total and hand Australia the series.
Opting to bat first, Australia had a flying start as Jake Fraser-McGurk teared Shaheen Shah Afridi apart for 21 off the first over. Aussies reached to 50 inside only 3 overs with both the openers were firing in. But Haris Rauf bowled an inspiring spell to remove dangerous Fraser-McGurk and skipper Josh Inglis in the same over and brought Pakistan back into the game.
Abbas Afridi then knocked over Matthew Short on 32 off 17 balls and Australia soon had a mini collapse at the middle order.
At the backend of the innings, Aaron Hardie, however, played a gritty knock of 28 off 23 balls which helped Aussies get to 147 on the board.
In reply, Xavier Bartlett bowled a superb new ball spell as he removed Babar Azam. Spencer Johnson then had Sahibzada Farhan and got Agha Salman in the very next delivery to leave Pakistan crumble. Mohammad Rizwan had a rusty start but he couldn’t make it up as he fell to Spencer after scoring 16 off 26 balls.
Usman Khan then steered the ship for Pakistan, scoring a fighting fifty and single handedly trying to chase the total but Spencer Johnson came in and removed Usman and Abbas Afridi in the same over to pick up a fifer and hand Australia the match by 13 runs.
