After weeks of speculation surrounding the South Africa tour of Bangladesh, it has now been confirmed that the series will go ahead as scheduled.
The uncertainty emerged after the Women’s T20 World Cup, initially set to be held in Bangladesh, was relocated to the UAE due to safety concerns. However, South Africa’s cricket board has expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements in Bangladesh for their men’s team, clearing the way for the two-match Test series in October.
Shahriar Nafees, the Cricket Operations Manager of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed that all security protocols requested by the visiting South African delegation were met, ensuring that the series will proceed without any further hindrance.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Nafees said, "We are extremely happy that after a long break, we are hosting a home series again. Unfortunately, we couldn't organize the World Cup, but we’re now focused on ensuring this series is a success. We believe our team will perform well."
A delegation from Cricket South Africa visited Bangladesh earlier to assess the security situation. According to Nafees, all of their concerns were addressed.
"They wanted to assess our security measures, and we met all of their requirements. The venues are determined by the BCB in consultation with the Bangladesh team, and there were no issues from South Africa’s side regarding the venues," Nafees added.
He also emphasized the coordinated effort between various government and security agencies, stating, "This has been a combined effort from the Bangladesh Police, the government, and the Bangladesh Army. We are grateful for their support, which enabled us to meet South Africa’s expectations."
Nafees further said, "South Africa has expressed satisfaction, and they’ve assured us that there will be no issues regarding the series taking place. They have even thanked the BCB for the arrangements."
The first Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa is scheduled to begin on October 21 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, while the second Test will commence on October 25 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
