Karabo Meso, Seshnie Naidu, and Miane Smit have been summoned to the South African national team for the women's ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka between April 27 and May 11. The team is likely to get strengthened for the World Cup.
The Proteas Women have added U19 stars Seshnie Naidu and Karabo Meso to the senior team for the coming ODI triangular series in Sri Lanka, also to be contested by India.
Cricket South Africa has revealed the squad for the Proteas Women's next tour of Sri Lanka, where they will take on hosts Sri Lanka and India in an ODI tri-series.
Three players have been included in the country's national side for the first time: Karabo Meso and Seshnie Naidu, who played in the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup recently, are part of the tri-series team. All-rounder Miané Smit, who had gone with last year's ICC Women's T20 World Cup as a reserve player, too, got selected.
The largest news headline in team news is the rest for seasoned all-rounder Marizanne Kapp. As has been reported, she will be concentrating on her fitness ahead of the coming tours and the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India.
Proteas Women's Head Coach Mandla Mashimbyi had this to say: "The combination of youth and experience is beneficial. It's a chance for these girls to prove themselves."
We hope that we can put all that we have learned at camp into practice when we step onto the field in Sri Lanka. For me, it is not another chance for Karabo, Miane, and Seshnie.
It's a chance for us to get them seen at this level. In the future, and in the larger scheme of things, it's essential that we expose them to international cricket as much as we can." This tour provides us with the chance to take stock of where the team is at the moment. It's a continuous process. We would like to be at a stage where, by the time we go to India in September, we're there as a team.
"But from a skills point of view, there is a great deal more to do, and that is precisely what we are focusing on at the moment."
