Former right-arm Pace bowler Sohail Khan announced his retirement from international and first class cricket on Sunday. However, he will continue to play in domestic white ball and franchise cricket around the world.
Pakistani fast bowler Sohail Khan has said goodbye to international and first-class cricket. Sohail hails from the Malakand agency in the Northwestern Frontier Province (NWFP) and has made his cricket home in Karachi. He made his breakthrough on the premier scene during the 2007-08 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy season.
The 39-year-old from Malakand had a brief international cricket career from 2008 to 2016, during which he played 9 Tests, 13 ODIs and 5 T20Is for Pakistan. Khan chose 27 wickets in Tests, 19 in ODIs and 5 in the shortest format.
He will be best remembered for picking up five wickets against India in a group match of the 2015 ICC World Cup in Adelaide, but the Men in Blue still comfortably won the game thanks to Virat Kohli's 107.
Affectionately known as "Sohail Pathan", he was promoted by the Rashid Latif Cricket Academy (RLCA). A chance on a quick talent scout as a bowler after moving to Karachi led him to the academy where his raw talent was honed to perfection. The results of this stint were simply outstanding.
Sohail's journey in Test cricket has had its ups and downs. His debut without a wicket on a demanding Karachi pitch in 2009 made many ponder his future in the format. However, he made a triumphant return at the 2016 Edgbaston Test, showing a marked improvement in his skills. His remarkable five-wicket success against India at the 2015 World Cup remains his most notable achievement in international cricket.
Sohail accumulated 27 wickets in Test matches, 19 wickets in ODIs and five wickets in T20Is. In first-class format he stands out with an impressive record of 516 wickets, while in List-A cricket he has 167 wickets to his name. In T20 cricket, Sohail has recorded 158 wickets in 130 matches.
Sohail took to his social media account to announce his retirements. However, he confirmed he will continue to play domestic white ball and franchise cricket.
