Shreyas Iyer has completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and will soon join India's Test squad ahead of their game against Australia in Delhi.
Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has successfully completed his rehab and will join the Indian team for the second Test against Australia. A media report released by BCCI has confirmed that Iyer has been cleared by BCCI's medical team and will be available for selection when India take on Australia on February 17.
Shreyas will join the squad in New Delhi ahead of the second test of Mastercard Australia's tour of India - the Border-Gavaskar Trophy," BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.
Iyer's absence was not felt in the squad during the first Test as Team India dominated the Aussies throughout the game. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored a fabulous ton while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja impressed with the ball.
Iyer's addition to the squad could solve the middle-order dilemma for India. Suryakumar Yadav was handed his Test debut in the first match along with KS Bharat in Iyer's absence. Both players were unable to rise to the occasion and play with the bat.
After playing the two Test series in Bangladesh in December, Iyer developed lower back swelling for which he received an injection at the NCA. He was originally scheduled to travel to Nagpur from Bengaluru and join the Indian squad for their Border-Gavaskar Trophy prep camp which starts on February 2nd. However, his rehab was extended and in his absence, Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut in Nagpur. scoring eight in India's innings victory.
Australia will once again rely on the services of Todd Murphy, who made his debut in the first game. The 22-year-old picked up seven wickets throughout the game and was the only Australian bowler that India had to contend with.
Australia will also try to make some changes in the playing XI. David Warner's performance in the first Test was underwhelming but it's likely the 36-year-old will get another chance in the next game. If the team manages to counter India's spin attack, they could have a chance to win the game. Both teams will meet at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday 17 February.
