Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment following Pakistan's loss to arch-rivals India in their T20 World Cup match on Sunday. Pakistan exhibited a stark contrast between their batting and bowling performances. After successfully bowling India out for 119, Pakistan delivered a disappointing batting display, finishing at 113/7 in 20 overs. Despite being well-placed at 73 for 3 in 12.1 overs while chasing a modest target of 120, Pakistan faltered as Bumrah's sensational bowling turned the game around. In his match analysis, Akhtar questioned the fans about whether Pakistan deserved to qualify for the Super 8 phase.
"I know you guys are disappointed. Morale of the whole nation is down at the moment. I had said before the game that personal goals shouldn't really matter. You have to play for each other and for the country. You have to show intent and win game for the team. You shouldn't be worries about the milestones. Disappointing. Do Pakistan really deserve to be in Super 8? God knows. I am leaving this question for you," Akhtar said in a video posted on his social media accounts.
Pakistan will have to win all their games in hand, and rely on other teams to have a chance at reaching the Super 8. As things stand, it is not looking good for the runners up of the previous edition of the World Cup.
