Former Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad has called for a major revamp of Pakistan's T20I top-order following their disappointing 13-run loss in the second match and a humiliating 0-3 series whitewash against Australia. The final match of the series, held at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, saw Pakistan bowled out for a mere 117, with Babar Azam’s 41 off 28 balls being the only notable contribution.
Australia chased down the target in just 11.2 overs, with Marcus Stoinis delivering a powerful performance, smashing a 27-ball 61. The ease with which Australia dismantled Pakistan underscored the stark difference in the teams' approaches to the format, leaving Pakistan clearly outclassed.
Ahmed Shehzad, who has been out of favor with the national selectors, did not hold back his disappointment. Taking to social media platform X, Shehzad openly criticized the senior players, including Babar Azam, for their lackluster performance and outdated strategies.
“We had a good powerplay & Babar Azam was playing set! And then once again when spinners came he had no answers for them! We thought he would help Pakistan get a good total, but as a senior he failed again. The Pakistan batsmen's brainless approach shows they are still stuck in the Stone Age. Too much running between the wickets," Shehzad expressed in his post.
Shehzad’s criticism extended beyond just the batters, as he voiced concern over the entire team’s failure to adapt to modern T20 cricket.
"This team needs a revamp. Senior players who are baggage on the team must be replaced. Getting whitewashed by this Australian side is shameful, horrible, & embarrassing to say the least. Australia chased Pakistan's total in just 11.2 overs. This is what modern-day cricket is. Our players lack power. There is no answer for such a horrible performance," he added.
Shehzad urged the selectors to make drastic changes ahead of Pakistan's upcoming series against South Africa and Zimbabwe.
"For the upcoming South African series, let's see if Pakistan will go with the same failed players or will selectors choose younger talent from the domestic circuit, and drop senior players. Changes must be made to both the batting and bowling department," he concluded.
