The Rangpur Riders have stormed into the final of the Global Super League with a decisive 23-run victory against Lahore Qalandars in their fourth match. Top-order fireworks and disciplined bowling under challenging weather conditions ensured the Bangladeshi franchise’s success at Guyana’s Providence Stadium.
Persistent rain delayed the start of the match, reducing it to a 16-over contest. Winning the toss, Rangpur elected to bat first and made a blistering start, courtesy of openers Soumya Sarkar and Steven Taylor. Taylor smashed three boundaries in the opening over, while Soumya joined the onslaught with his own array of fours and sixes. The duo powered Rangpur to 46 runs in just four overs.
Rain interrupted again after Soumya's dismissal for a quickfire 22 off 13 balls. Saif Hassan, however, picked up where Soumya left off, striking 27 runs off just 14 deliveries. By the time rain returned, Rangpur had reached 85/1 in nine overs, with Taylor unbeaten on 32 (27 balls) and Saif Hassan complementing him with four boundaries and a six.
After another rain delay, the DLS method set a challenging target of 111 runs in nine overs for Lahore Qalandars.
Defending the adjusted target, Rangpur's Mahedi Hasan struck early, taking two wickets and contributing to a run-out in the very first over. He later dismissed Mohammad Akhlaq to complete a stellar three-wicket haul, putting Rangpur firmly in control.
Lahore briefly resisted through Tom Abell and Mirza Baig, with Baig top-scoring with 31 runs. However, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Zak Chappell ensured there were no comebacks. Rabbi removed Baig, while Chappell took crucial wickets, including Carlos Brathwaite and Tom Abell, to seal the win. Lahore managed only 87/7, falling 23 runs short.
This victory secured Rangpur Riders’ spot in the tournament’s final. They will face Australia’s Victoria team tomorrow in a highly anticipated showdown.
