Rangpur Division climbed to the top of the points table in the fourth round of the National Cricket League (NCL), defeating Rajshahi Division by a comprehensive 101-run margin. The match at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium saw Rajshahi struggle to chase down the target of 263 runs, ultimately being bowled out for 161 runs. Rangpur, now with two wins and a draw, holds 19 points and lead the table temporarily. However, Sylhet and Dhaka Metro have the potential to surpass them depending on the outcomes of their fourth-round games.
Rajshahi’s current standing is fifth, with one win and a draw from four games, and a total of 10 points.
On the final day, needing only four wickets to wrap up the game, Rangpur finished the job in the first session. Robiul Haque struck in the day’s second over, dismissing SM Meherob, after which debutant Golam Kibria and captain Sanzamul Islam put together a 76-run partnership to offer some resistance. Kibria top-scored with a quick 56 off 65 balls, including 10 fours and a six, while Sanzamul contributed a measured 23 off 48. Batting at No. 11, Mohor Sheikh chipped in with a brisk 19 from 13 balls, but Rajshahi still fell short.
Ariful Haque's standout performance earned him the Player of the Match award, as he took three wickets in addition to his century in the first innings. Robiul, Abu Hashim, and Abdul Ghaffar Saqlain each claimed two wickets for Rangpur.
This match marked the end of a significant era as Rajshahi’s veteran batter Farhad Hossain announced his retirement after nearly 19 years of first-class cricket. Farhad leaves behind an impressive career with 9,065 runs, 18 centuries, and 46 fifties from 161 matches. After the match, he received a signed jersey from his teammates and a special commemorative award from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to honor his contribution to domestic cricket.
