This marks another rain-affected match for Bangladesh after several disruptions in recent days involving both men’s and women’s teams. The much-anticipated opener at Panagoda Army Ground on September 8 saw no action as persistent rain forced the match to be called off due to a wet outfield.
The match was initially delayed for three hours before being officially abandoned. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will now look forward to the second ODI scheduled for September 10 at Thurstan Ground in Colombo.
Bangladesh women’s 'A' team, although named as a development side, includes several senior national players in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Key players like captain Nigar Sultana Joty, Jahanara Alam, Rabeya Khatun, and Murshida Khatun are part of the squad.
The tour is crucial as it provides match practice for the T20 World Cup, now relocated to the UAE after political instability in Bangladesh. The tournament will begin on October 3, with Bangladesh taking on Scotland in the opening match in Sharjah. After their Sri Lanka tour, the team will return home for final preparations before heading to the UAE.
