Australia's National Selection Panel believes that young batters and spin bowlers will benefit from the sub- continent's circumstances during the 10-day tour.
“Cricket Australia’s relationship with the MRF Academy allows for a customised experience for those chosen. The schedule combines match play with intense training opportunities along with access to strength and conditioning,” said the Cricket Australia (CA) in a media release.
Will Pucovski, a gifted right-handed hitter who has had several concussions in recent years, is one of eight cricketers selected for the 10-day camp to be held next month. During the drawn Test match against India at the SCG last year, the 24-year-old scored 62 and 10 as India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 series victory.
In addition to Pucovski, Josh Philippe and Matthew Kuhnemann who represent Australia previously are also in the squad, while Henry Hunt, Tanveer Sangha, and Todd Murphy who are regular face in Australia A team, are also got chance in the camp. Cooper Connolly and Teague Wyllie, two of Australia's Under 19 World Cup participants, will also go to Chennai.
A two-day and one-day match will be held within the camp block, with former Sri Lanka all-rounder Thilan Samaraweera and Australia great Glenn McGrath on the coaching staff for the eight players.
Ex-Australian all-rounder Tony Dodemaide will accompany the players on this year's tour as their tour manager.
"It is exciting to renew the partnership with the MRF Academy and provide this group of young players with a truly unique experience," Dodemaide said. "Some players have toured the subcontinent in the past so this trip will further refine their skills while others will gain valuable new experience in these testing conditions."
