Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has announced in a press conference on Thursday that the third and final ODI against Zimbabwe on Friday will be his last as the captain of Bangladesh 50-over side.
This decision comes on the back of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Nazmul Hasan Papon declaring prior to the Zimbabwe series that they would take decision on appointing a new captain, keeping in mind the 2023 World Cup.
So it can be said that Mashrafe's decision is nothing surprising. But Mashrafe is not a just a cricketer now. He has another identity. He is now a Member of Parliament, and also has good relation with the country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Naturally question arises, whether the PM was aware of Mashrafe's decision.
When asked about the matter at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Thursday, Mashrafe replied in the affirmative.
"I don't think she should be bothered about something so small. Somehow she knows, though,"
said Mashrafe, who led Bangladesh to 49 ODI wins out of 87 matches.
Bangladesh also won 10 T20Is in 28 matches under him. Bangladesh also won the only Test he captained in (2009), which also happened to be his final match in whites.
Mashrafe also shed light on his future, clarifying that he is not retiring from international cricket as a player yet, though his selection as a player for future tournaments will be subject to his beep test results.

My future definitely includes cricket, and if a player requires me, I will give it my best. I have to do my work in my constituency until the next election,"
he said.
