UAE and Oman are confirmed as the hosts for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 which is scheduled to get underway from the 17th of October. The grand finale of the prestigious tournament will be played in Dubai on November 14. Papua New Guinea, who are making their debut in the elite competition will take on co-hosts Oman in the opening fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
Papua New Guinea, who have just announced their squad for the global event, will face Scotland, Bangladesh, and Oman in the Group B first round. The debutants would look to book a Super 12 spot and a winning start against Oman is likely to be the key to their target.
As far as their team is concerned all eyes would be on opener Tony Ura who would have a job to do with the bat. Bowling all-rounder Norman Vanua and leg-spinning all-rounder Charles Amini would also have a task cut out for them which will determine the progress of the team in the T20 World cup.
Assad Vala, the PNG captain, spoke about the honour of playing at such a global event and stated that it is nothing short of a dream come true for each and every member of the squad.
"There are no superstars in our 11 or 15. We are a well-drilled team, well-disciplined. We just rely on playing our roles and executing our skills to the best of our abilities. To be able to finally qualify for one and participate in one of the World Cups is a dream come true for me, and speaking on behalf of all my teammates, it will be an honor for us. It’s the pinnacle of cricket, being able to play against the best in the world," Vala said.
