Pakistan National Cricket Team middle-order batter Saud Shakeel found himself in an unusual controversy during the President’s Trophy Grade 1 Final when he was given ‘timed out’ while playing for State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) against Pakistan Television (PTV).

The rare dismissal occurred on day two of the final making Shakeel the seventh batter in first-class cricket history to be given out in this manner.
Shakeel slated to bat at No. 5 failed to arrive at the crease within the required three minutes after the fall of a wicket. Reports suggest he was asleep at the time, missing his turn to bat.
Sensing the delayed PTV captain Ahmad Butt appealed and after deliberation, the umpires upheld the appeal ruling Shakeel out.
The incident was part of a dramatic over bowled by Mohammad Shahzad who had just dismissed Umar Amin and Fawad Alam on consecutive deliveries. Shakeel was supposed to face the hat-trick ball but failed to appear in time.
With SBP at 128/1 Shahzad struck twice, reducing them to 128/3.
Shakeel’s absence led to the timed-out appeal, making it 128/4.
Shahzad then completed his hat-trick, reducing SBP to 128/5 in just three balls.
Before Saud Shakeel, only six other batters had suffered the same fate in first-class cricket:
1. Andrew Jordaan (South Africa)
2. Hemulal Yadav (India)
4. Ryan Austin (West Indies)
5. AJ Harris (England)
6. Charles Kunje (Zimbabwe)
