Bangladesh faced a crushing seven-wicket defeat against West Indies in the second ODI of the three-match series held in Basseterre on Tuesday (December 10). After losing early wickets and posting an underwhelming total of 227, Bangladesh couldn’t contain the hosts, who chased down the target comfortably with 79 balls to spare.
Stand-in captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz expressed disappointment with his team’s batting performance, particularly during the crucial middle overs. "We didn't bat well in the middle overs. No partnerships. Back-to-back wickets. Mahmudullah and Sakib played well, but it was our mistake [with the bat] that cost us. Seales and Co bowled really well. We didn't get early runs. We were 20 for 4, but even then we thought we can come back. Our score wasn't enough, 300-plus was needed," said Mehidy after the match.
Jayden Seales, who claimed four wickets for just 22 runs, was named Player of the Match. His devastating early spell dismantled Bangladesh's top order, leaving them reeling at 20/4. Despite a resilient 62 from Mahmudullah and a spirited 45 from lower-order batter Tanzim Hasan Sakib, the visitors couldn’t set a competitive total.
The West Indies batting lineup made light work of the chase, with Brandon King (82) and Evin Lewis (49) laying a strong foundation. Contributions from Keacy Carty (45) and a quickfire 24 from Sherfane Rutherford sealed the match for the hosts.
As the series now stands 2-0 in favor of the West Indies, Bangladesh will aim to salvage some pride in the final ODI.
