New Zealand has boosted its coaching staff ahead of their one-off Test against Afghanistan in Noida by adding former Sri Lankan champion Left-Arm spinner Rangana Herath and former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour. Both seasoned coaches have joined the Blackcaps' camp at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground as the team prepares for the highly-anticipated match.
It must be noted that Rangana Herath, known for his impressive spin bowling, has temporarily replaced Pakistan legend Saqlain Mushtaq in this coaching role. Herath will not only assist the team for the Afghanistan Test but will also remain with the Blackcaps for their upcoming two-match Test series against India. On the other hand, Vikram Rathour has been brought in specifically for the Afghanistan Test.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed his excitement about the inclusion of Herath and Rathour, praising their deep knowledge of cricket and the sub-continent conditions.
"We’re really excited to introduce Rangana and Vikram into our Test group," Stead said. "Both men are held in high regard in the world of cricket and I know our players are really looking forward to the opportunity to learn from them."
He further emphasized the massive impact Herath’s experience could have on New Zealand's left-arm orthodox spinners—Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner, and Rachin Ravindra. "For our three left-arm orthodox spinners in particular, having the chance to work with Rangana across three Tests on the sub-continent will be hugely beneficial," he said
With the addition of Rangana Herath and Vikram Rathour to their coaching staff, New Zealand is strategically strengthening their team as they approach key Test matches in the sub-continent.
