New Zealand have suffered a bigger shock before the ODI World Cup. All-rounder Michael Bracewell is out of the World Cup due to injury.
Bracewell was injured on June 9. The all-rounder played for Worcestershire in England's T20 Blast. He suddenly injured his leg while batting against Yorkshire and had to leave the field immediately.
Later it was known that the muscle of his right leg had been torn. Bracewell will have to undergo surgery. He will be able to return from UK after 2 weeks of surgery. It is known that it may take 8 months to recover from the injury. That means that the all-rounder will not be in the upcoming World Cup to be held in India.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead is disappointed to lose an important member of the team. He said, "Firstly, you always feel for the player when injury strikes and especially when it means they will have to miss a world event. Michael's a great team man and has had a fantastic 15 months for the BlackCaps since his international debut. We've seen his exceptional skills in all three facets of the game and he was shaping as an important player for us at the world cup in India. Michael's naturally pretty disappointed, but also pragmatic in acknowledging that injuries are a part of sport and he's now turning his focus to his rehabilitation."
Bracewell made his ODI debut in March last year. The all-rounder has played 19 ODIs so far. Where he has 510 runs at an average of 42.50. The 32-year-old cricketer played an important role for New Zealand at number 6 or 7.
One of the notable innings of his ODI career was his 78-ball 140 against India this year. Although New Zealand could not win that match, he took the match to the last moment.
