Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 5 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday. Lucknow scored 177 runs in 20 overs with the help of Marcus Stoinis' unbeaten 47-ball 89-run innings.
Chasing that run, Mumbai lost their way after Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma made an opening partnership of 90 runs. Later, David led the team back into the fight. When 11 runs were needed in the last over, LSG captain Krunal Pandya gave the ball to pacer Mohsin Khan who conceded 21 runs in the first two overs. But in the last over, he showed great skill under intense pressure. He did not allow Tim David and Cameron Green to play big shots with a mixture of slower, full-length, length balls, and yorkers. No runs came from two balls in the over, there were three singles and a double in the last ball. All in all, Mohsin gave a total of 5 runs!
After the match, the 24-year-old pacer spoke about his ailing father in an emotional voice. "Sadly, my father was in the hospital, in the ICU, he just got discharged yesterday so I was playing the match for him. He was probably watching the game on TV. So I was playing for him. He was in the ICU for the last ten days. He must be very happy,” Mohsin said.
Mohsin's performance in the last IPL was amazing. He took 14 wickets in 9 matches. He was the only bowler to take 10 wickets in the entire tournament with less than six runs per over.
However, he was out of the field for the entire year due to injury after the IPL. He could not play any type of cricket match from the last IPL to this IPL. This time also before this match he played only one match and gave 42 runs in 3 overs.
"I was just trying to keep myself calm and not look at the scorecard. I just thought that I have to simply bowl six balls. I wasn't looking at the runs, whether they need 10 runs or 11 runs. I was just thinking that I have to bowl six good balls.
"Because the wicket was gripping I thought I will bowl slower balls. I beat the batter with the first two balls. I was just trying to change that up with yorkers. It was also reversing a little,” he added.
