Mushtaq Ahmed, celebrated for his stellar career both as a cricketer and a coach, has made a notable difference in the Bangladesh cricket team, particularly in guiding their spin bowlers. Working closely with players like Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mushtaq’s role has extended beyond technical coaching to inspiring and supporting the players mentally.
After the T20 World Cup, Mushtaq continued his journey with the Tigers, contributing significantly during the Pakistan series. Bangladesh’s spinners performed exceptionally well on the Rawalpindi wicket, unsettling the home side and winning the series by 2-0 sweeping Pakistan. Miraz, reflecting on his first experience working with Mushtaq, expressed admiration for the former Pakistan leg-spinner's supportive nature.
"I worked with Mushtaq Ahmed for the first time. I really liked him as a person. He says a lot of inspirational things and always tries to support the players. He stands by us during tough times. I really appreciated that," said Miraz.
Miraz believes that maintaining a positive mindset is crucial for performing well. He added, "Everyone is in a good mood, in good shape. If you're not mentally free, you can never play well. You can't carry all the pressure alone. That’s why help is needed from everyone—players and coaches."
Miraz himself prefers to stay stress-free while playing. Although he led the team to victory during the Pakistan tour, he doesn't want to be burdened by expectations, choosing instead to stay grounded and move forward cautiously.
"I can't plan specifically before any tour, it creates pressure. Before the Pakistan series, I didn't think I'd be the Man of the Series. I just tried to play well for the team. If expectations are too high, it becomes pressure. I'm trying to stay normal," concluded Miraz.
