Bangladesh veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim will miss the remainder of the ODI series against Afghanistan after suffering a finger injury during the opening match of the series in Sharjah. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed Mushfiqur’s unavailability in a press release on Wednesday, following the injury he sustained while wicketkeeping.

In the first ODI, Bangladesh faced a 92-run defeat at the hands of Afghanistan, a match where the Tigers bowled first but fell short with the bat. Mushfiqur injured his finger while keeping wickets and managed to bat later at No. 7 but was dismissed for just one run from three balls. The Bangladeshi batting order suffered a significant collapse, resulting in a heavy loss to their Afghan counterparts.

Initially, Mushfiqur was ruled out of the second ODI, but further examination revealed that he will miss the third match as well. The BCB has not named a replacement for him in the squad, as backup wicketkeepers Zakir Hasan and Jaker Ali Anik are already part of the team. With regular keeper Litton Das unavailable, Bangladesh are likely to field either Zakir or Jaker with the gloves for the remaining matches.

Bangladesh are currently trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, with the second and third ODIs scheduled for November 9 and 11. To keep their hopes alive in the series, Bangladesh must secure a win in the upcoming game.
