India’s premium fast bowler Mohammad Shami is set to return to competitive Cricket, nearly after a year. He has been named in the Bengal’s squad for the upcoming fixture against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, commences from November 13.

Mohammad Shami last played back in November 19 against Australia in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. He initially ruled out of action due to ankle injury, for which he underwent surgery and had an extensive rehab at the then-National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. However, his return was delayed due to swelling in his knee.
"Shami, who has been out of competitive action since India's ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November, will spearhead the Bengal pace bowling attack against Madhya Pradesh," Cricket Association of Bengal confirmed in a statement (via Sportstar).
"Shami's inclusion in the Bengal team will not just be a big boost but also lift the morale of the entire team, which aims to make it to the next round of the Ranji Trophy."
Bengal are in the fifth spot on the points table of the Ranji Trophy with eight points from four matches.
Shami wasn’t named in the India's squar for Australia Test tour. But if he remains fit after the match against Madhya Pradesh then he might be come into the mix.
India however, have picked up a relatively young squad with Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana as the only frontline pacers alongside ace pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
