Star Australia fast quick Mitchell Starc says he will bid for next year's Indian Premier League as he plans to end an eight-year hiatus from the T20 league.
Mitchell Starc's self-imposed exile from the IPL will soon end with the Pacer targeting his return to competition in 2024. He last played at the IPL in 2015.
Mitchell Starc's eight-year absence from the Indian Premier League will end with the veteran Australian quickly announcing his intention to call up for the lucrative T20 tournament.
I will definitely be attending the IPL auction again - Mitchell Starc
Since 2015, Starc has signed off from the IPL to focus on national duties. With Australia being relatively calm in the middle of 2024, the left-back sees an opportunity to make his mark. There is also a need to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which the Australians will look to repeat their effort in 2021 where they won in the United Arab Emirates.
“A good opportunity to see if anyone is interested in IPL and then compete in the T20 World Championship. And next year it's going to be a rather quiet winter compared to this winter, so I think it's a perfect opportunity to submit my name," Starc continued.
It's no secret that Starc adds value on crunch power play and death overs, as well as offering variety as a left arm option. One can only imagine how much franchise companies will pay for Starc's services, especially if he hosts a major ODI World Cup in India.
There's a good chance he'll play in a major tournament. The 50-over World Cup is Starc's Kryptonite, taking 49 wickets total with a 14.8 average and a 19.1 batting average.
Starc is currently recovering from injury and is not among Australia's five ODIs in South Africa. He is expected to be fit and ready for the World Cup, where he will be vital to Australia's quest for a sixth title.
