Chasing 206 Delhi were in control thanks to Karun Nair’s fiery 89 off 40 balls but collapsed in stunning fashion in the 19th over handing MI a 12-run win in a thrilling finish.
MI all-rounder and New Zealand national cricket team captain Mitchell Santner, who took two key wickets described the chaotic finish as “crazy,” crediting Karn Sharma for swinging the momentum MI’s way.
“Nice to get over the line. Every game seems to be close in IPL. This was one hell of a game here in Delhi. It’s crazy to finish off with three run-outs. It was one of those games where we were kind of behind for a bit, and then he managed to get us right back. The bowling coach was pretty happy. To nail six in a row in an over was amazing.”
Santner also praised Karn Sharma’s three-wicket haul that slowed DC down in the middle overs:
“To get three wickets by Karn was massive; it was the only way to slow them down. We had to take wickets in the middle overs. The spinners who have bowled defensively have done well (in the tournament). Karun Nair’s innings was special, playing his first game this season.”
Earlier in the game DC won the toss and chose to bowl. They restricted MI to 205/5 with Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam picking up two wickets each. Despite the steep chase Karun Nair nearly pulled off a stunning win on his IPL comeback. However his efforts weren’t supported by the rest of the batting unit.
