The verdict was handed down on April 21 in the Maroochydore District Court where Judge Glen Cash partly suspended the sentence due to Slater's time already served since April 2024 when he was denied bail.
The 55-year-old was convicted on multiple serious charges including:
- Domestic violence
- Unlawful stalking or intimidation
- Breaking into a dwelling at night with intent
- Common assault
- Assault occasioning bodily harm
- Choking or suffocation
The court was told that alcohol abuse was a recurring factor in Slater’s offenses. Judge Cash openly addressed the former cricketer’s battle with addiction, saying:
“It's obvious that you are an alcoholic,” adding that rehabilitation would be a "significant challenge."
The prosecution further highlighted the psychological impact on the victim revealing that Slater made threats of self-harm and issued warnings to prevent the victim from reporting his behavior.
“The victim felt extremely fearful and exhausted by Slater’s actions,” the court heard.
