Australian all-rounder Matthew Short has pulled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL X). Islamabad United has established that the hamstring injury he suffered in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy has occurred again.
Matthew Short has officially been excluded from playing in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) X. Short was part of Islamabad United, but the effects of the hamstring injury that occurred while playing at the Champions Trophy kept him away from competing in the tournament.
In a press release that was issued on Sunday, the franchise confirmed Short's exclusion, revealing that after exhibiting encouraging signs of recovery after reaching Pakistan, the player was left with pain after training.
A combined medical evaluation by the Islamabad United medical staff and Cricket Australia personnel resulted in his withdrawal from playing in the interest of his future fitness.
"After careful evaluation, both medical teams determined that it was in the best interest for Matthew Short to return home and resume his rehabilitation under Cricket Australia's supervision," the release stated.
Short, 27, had suffered the injury in April at the ICC Champions Trophy. He has now headed back to Australia to concentrate on his rehabilitation.
"Islamabad United is deeply committed to the welfare of all our players and stands with Matt through his recovery," the franchise said.
"We thank him for his professionalism and positive attitude in the training camp and wish him a speedy and complete recovery," it added.
Entering the tournament, Islamabad United is at the top of the points table with three victories in as many games.
