Following legal actions against Shakib Al Hasan, another former Bangladesh cricket captain, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, has now been implicated in a case related to alleged violence during a political protest.
The complaint, filed by Sheikh Mostafa AL-Muzahidur Rahman Palash, secretary of the BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) in Narail, accuses Mashrafe and 90 others of inciting attacks during a demonstration. The incident occurred during a movement initially protesting quota reforms, which later transformed into an anti-government demonstration.
In addition to Mashrafe, who has been named the first accused in the case, his father Golam Mortaza, and other prominent local political leaders from the ruling party have also been listed as defendants. The case also includes 400-500 unnamed individuals. The charges were filed on September 10, and as of now, no arrests have been made.
Mashrafe, who has represented Narail-2 constituency in the national parliament, has recently been in the spotlight for joining the US Masters T10 cricket tournament. The former cricketer has expressed regret in past interviews, stating his disappointment in failing to meet public expectations and being unable to assist his nation during critical moments.
This legal case arises shortly after another former cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, was accused in a separate incident. Shakib, currently outside the country, was implicated in a case involving the death of a garment worker.
