Royal Challengers Bangalore need 2 runs in 5 remaining balls
Lucknow Super Giants won the match by the bearest margin of 5 runs against Mumbai Indians in Lucknow on 17th May (Wed).
After losing the toss LSG were put to bat first. Their top order was blown away by Jason Behrendroff's onburst spell. The Aussie quick took the wickets of Deepak Hooda and Prerak Mankad. While Piyush Chawla got De Kock and LSG were stumbling for 35-3 after the powerplay.
Skipper Krunal Pandya and Aussie all rounder Marcus Stoinis came to rescue LSG from falling into a deep hole. Krunal Pandya played the second fiddle role as he scored a sedate 49 from 42 balls on a slowish deck in Lucknow. Krunal's slowish innings hampered LSG's tempo in the innings. But Marcus Stoinis' hammerblows in the last three overs made it possible to cruise pass 170.
Stoin was at his best tonight. He went Jordan for 24 runs in 18th over. Smacked 3 boundaries and 2 sixes in that over. While in the next over he smashed two sensational sixes off Behrendroff and took 15 runs in the 19th over. In the last over, he was teieing off Akash Madhwal as he smacked him for 15 runs in the last over. Therefore, in total he took 53 runs in last 3 overs and took LSG to 177-3 and finished his innings for a stunning 89 off 47 balls.
Chasing the total, MI had a brisk start. Courtesy Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan's opening stand. They added 90 runs inside 10 overs at the opening stand before Rohit fell to Ravi Bishoni. After the dismissal of the MI skipper, the other opener Ishan Kishan too couldn’t last long as Bishoni yet again scalped another wicket and triggered for a collapse. Suryakumar Yadav flopped miserably as he was knocked over by a peach from Yash Thakur and Nehal Wadhara was gone after making 16 from 20 balls.
MI still needed 48 runs from last 25 deliveries. Green and Tim David, the two talismanic finishers from Australia were at the crease to pull off the heist. And Tim David smoked a six and a boundary and six in the last ball off Naveen Ul Haq's 19th over. MI needed 11 from last over. Green gave a dot in the first ball, then a single off Mohsin Khan's over. David too took a single and then another dot from Green and MI needed 9 from last 2 balls remaining. But Green only managed a single which saw MI needed 8 from the last ball which was impossible to reach. David took 2 runs off the last ball and LSG won the match by 5 runs.
