After the last season, Glenn Maxwell stepped down from the leadership role and the Stars were in void of a captain. Today they've announced their seventh full-time captain.
Stoinis said that he was honoured to take over the job from Maxwell.
"I had a little bit of a taste of captaining the side in 'Maxi's' absence last year and loved the opportunity, so to be given the role full time is a great honour," Stoinis said.
"The Stars have been such a constant in my life every summer for the last 10 years and I truly believe with the group we have assembled this season both on and off the field we can bring some long overdue success to the club."
Maxwell took over the captaincy for the Stars back in BBL|08 season and led the club to the season decider in his first two seasons as captain.
The newly appointed captain Marcus Stoinis is the club's second leading run-scorer of all-time (2656), only behind Maxwell and the sixth leading wicket-taker (39).
