Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has announced his retirement from all format cricket. The 37-year-old announced his retirement in an emotional social media post on Thursday.
Manoj Tiwary has retired from all cricket formats. The Indian batsman made the announcement in an Instagram post on Thursday, August 3.
Tiwary made his international debut at an ODI in Brisbane in 2008 but was sacked for a duck. Eventually he had to wait another three years to play for India again while celebrating his only century in international cricket in Chennai against West Indies.
Tiwary played his last international match (ODI) for India against Zimbabwe on 14 July 2015. After being dropped from the India squad by the BCCI selection committee, Tiwary continued to play in the IPL and domestic tournaments. However, he was never able to secure a recall to the Indian team.
To shed some light on his international cricket numbers, Manoj Tiwary represented India in 12 ODIs, scoring 287 runs. He recorded one hundred and fifty-one in 50-over format. He also played three T20Is for India in which he managed 15 runs.
"Goodbye to the game of cricket. This game has given me everything, I mean everything I never dreamed of, starting from the time when my life was challenged by different kinds of difficulties. I will be grateful to this game and everyone else to the GOD who has always been by my side," Tiwary wrote on Instagram.
Manoj Tiwary had a glittering career in domestic cricket, representing Bengal and also playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for teams such as Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab and Rising Pune Supergiants. Despite his impressive performances in domestic cricket, Tiwary's international career has been marked by sporadic appearances and periods when he has been overlooked.
Tiwary hit 1,695 runs with an average of 28.73. He is best remembered for hitting the winning runs in the 2012 IPL Finals and helping KKR defeat the Chennai Super Kings and win their first title. His last IPL appearance was for Punjab vs CSK on May 20, 2018. Tiwary hit a 30-ball-35 in that game.
